DT Swiss FR 541 Aluminum Rim
The DT Swiss FR 541 is a high-performance aluminum mountain bike rim built for riders who push their wheels hard. Designed specifically for freeride, downhill, bike park, and aggressive enduro riding, the FR 541 combines serious impact resistance with a relatively lightweight construction to create a dependable foundation for a hard-hitting custom wheelset.
DT Swiss redesigned the rim profile to improve durability and resistance to hard impacts while also increasing protection against pinch flats. Testing conducted with a leading tire manufacturer showed a 17% improvement in pinch-flat resistance compared to the previous-generation FR 560.
The FR 541 features a 30mm internal width, providing excellent support for modern aggressive mountain bike tires and allowing riders to run lower tire pressures for additional traction and control on rough terrain.
A welded aluminum construction provides a strong and precise rim joint, while DT Swiss’ PHR washer system increases the load-bearing surface around each spoke nipple. This helps distribute spoke forces across a larger area of the rim and reduces localized stresses for a strong, reliable wheel build.
Available in both 27.5” and 29” sizes, the FR 541 is also an excellent choice for mixed-wheel/mullet setups.

Industry Nine Hydra 2 Classic Rear Hub
The Industry Nine Hydra 2 Classic takes Industry Nine’s legendary high-engagement hub platform and makes it stronger, smoother, and more durable for modern mountain biking. Designed and manufactured in Asheville, North Carolina, Hydra 2 is built for everything from aggressive trail and enduro riding to downhill and full-power e-MTB use.
At the heart of Hydra 2 is an ultra-responsive 870-point-of-engagement (POE) drive system, providing engagement every 0.41°. The result is nearly instantaneous power transfer when you step on the pedals—especially noticeable through technical climbs, quick ratchet moves, and sections where precise pedal input matters.
Hydra 2 also receives major durability upgrades, including a 65% thicker axle, larger 6903 bearings, reinforced pawl pockets, improved sealing, and a refined drive mechanism designed to increase reliability while reducing drag. The Classic hub shell uses traditional J-bend spokes, making it an excellent choice for a premium custom wheel build while maintaining straightforward spoke availability and serviceability.
